Mrs. Jessica Amores Diaz is in her 2nd year as Director of Instrumental Ensembles at Robert Morgan Educational Center. Ms. Amores is proud to be a graduate from Miami Coral Park where she served as Woodwind Captain and Equipment Manager of the Band of Gold. She received her high school degree in the year 2006.
Ms. Amores received her Bachelor in Music degree from the Florida International University with a Major in Music Education and a Minor in Italian Language in 2011. She was the drum major of the FIU Marching Band in its revival year of 2010. Her first teaching position was at Keys Gate Charter School, where she taught 6 & 7th grade beginning band and general music in her first year, and then 7-12 grade band classes in her second year. During her time at Keys Gate, she started a marching band program (including color guard), chartered the school’s first ever chapter of Tri-M Music Honor Society, participated in the school’s first ever FBA District 16 Music Performance Assessment, and helped create the Knights of Gold Band Parent Association. Ms. Amores was offered a Graduate Teaching Assistantship with the Florida International University Marching Band, and had to temporarily resign from the public school system. She is currently finishing her Master’s in Music Education thesis and is hoping to graduate in December 2016.
Ms. Amores has served as Treasurer for the Dade County Music Educator’s Association from 2012-2014. She is also part of the following associations: National Association for Music Education (NAfME), Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA), Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA), Dade County Music Educator’s Association (DCMEA), Sigma Sigma Sigma National Sorority (ΣΣΣ), Sigma Alpha Iota international Music Fraternity for Women (SAI), is an Honorary Member of Kappa Kappa Psi National Honorary Band Fraternity (KKΨ), and is also part of the teacher’s union at Miami Dade County Public Schools (UTD).
Classes:
AP Music Theory
This course introduces students to musicianship, theory, musical materials, and procedures. Musicianship skills such as dictation and other listening skills, sight-singing, and keyboard harmony are considered an important part of this theory course. Student’s will develop the ability to read and write musical notation. It is strongly recommended that students have acquired at least basic performance skills in voice or on an instrument.
The ultimate goal of the AP Music Theory course is to develop a student’s ability to recognize, understand, and describe the basic materials and processes of music that are heard or presented in a score The achievement of this goal may be best promoted by integrated approaches tot he student’s development of aural skills, sight-singing skills, written skills, compositional skills and analytical skills through listening exercises, performance exercises, written exercises, creative exercise and analytical exercises.
This class will be a general music class involving live performances and current music events.
Orchestra is the premiere ensemble for strings at Robert Morgan Educational Center. Our students will be performing at FOA Music Performance Assessments.
This class is the elite ensemble for winds and percussion. The ensemble will be performing at various locations this semester.
